About Matt Cicoria, MS, BCBA

Hi, I’m Matt Cicoria — behavior analyst and podcast host.

I launched the Behavioral Observations Podcast in 2016 as a way to explore the science and practice of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) through long-form interviews with thought leaders, innovators, and front-line practitioners. Since then, the show has grown into one of the most trusted and widely downloaded podcasts in the field of behavior analysis.

But let’s rewind a bit.

I’ve been a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) since 2002, with clinical experience spanning schools, residential programs, and in-home and clinic-based early intervention. I’ve worked with individuals of all ages and abilities, but my interest has always been in connecting the dots—between research and real-world practice, between professionals across specialties, and between the science of behavior and the art of helping people.

Why I Started the Podcast

After years in the field, I realized that some of the most valuable insights weren’t coming from textbooks—they were coming from conversations. The Behavioral Observations Podcast was born from the simple idea that meaningful dialogue, shared widely, can elevate our entire field.

The goal? Make behavioral science more accessible, more conversational, and more relevant to both seasoned professionals and those just entering the field.

Each episode is a deep dive—not just into the “how” of behavior analysis, but also the “why.” Whether we’re discussing verbal behavior, organizational behavior management, severe problem behavior, or personal health habits, the guiding principle is always the same: evidence-based practice delivered in an accessible, conversational format.

A Few Things I Believe

  • Science should be shared. The best ideas in ABA shouldn’t stay behind paywalls or conference podiums.
  • We never stop learning. I’m constantly humbled and inspired by the guests I interview. If you’re listening, you probably are too.
  • Behavior is everything. And understanding it better can help us all live more effective, compassionate, and purposeful lives.

Beyond the Mic

When I’m not podcasting or consulting, I’m a father, hobbyist guitar player, and mountain biker. I ski and snowmobile as well, taking advantage of the long winters we get in New Hampshire. I also occasionally show up at conferences to speak about Behavior Analysis in school settings and podcasting, and I've moderated several conference panels.

If you’d like to connect, ask a question, or suggest a guest for the show, feel free to
reach out here. And if you haven’t already, be sure to
subscribe to the podcast or sign up for my newsletter to stay in the loop.

Thanks for stopping by—and for being part of this growing community of behavior nerds!
