Neil Deochand is anAssistant Professor-Educator in the Behavior Analysis Distance Learning Program at the University of Cincinnati. Since 2011 he has worked as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst in both center based and out-patient settings.
His research interests span a wide variety of topics including quality assurance of behavioral graphing practices and behavioral medicine. Neil's interests also include disseminating decision-making tools to support the professional practice of applied behavior analysis.
In this episode, we talk about these areas, but also focus on Neil’s work in consumer product development, namely the app he's developed that uses music to enhance athletic performance. This should be of significant interest to those of us who want to see our science applied more broadly.
We also talk aboutNeil’s interest in basic research using planaria, which, I am embarrassed to admit, I had to google to figure out what these things actually are. Somehow, Neil ties these varied topics all together.
Along the way, we discuss a few articles and resources, and I have done my best to capture all of them here:
- Listeners who are interested in beta-testing his app can contact Neil here.
- A Daily BA video highlighting Neil's work in boxing performance.
- A video Neil created highlighting the growth of ABA worldwide.
- A similar video highlighting growth in the United States.
- A paper (not by Neil) describing memory transfer research in planaria.
- Neil's Research Gate page.
- Critchfield, et al.'s 2017 paper on the emotional responses to Behavior Analysis jargon.
